Game Changers is the theme of the 54th annual ACPA Annual General Meeting and Conference to be hosted in Hamilton on August 19-22, 2012 to help mark the 100th anniversary of the port.
Speakers include Ted Menzies, Minister of State for Finance; Economist Jeffrey Rubin; and Perrin Beatty, CEO of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce. The program includes an opportunity for port representatives from across Canada to sample local fare, visit unique attractions and discover a renewed downtown becoming known for its arts scene and eclectic dining options. “Together, we will examine the state of the industry, while looking for ways to continue our advocacy, development and outreach into the regions in which we operate,” noted HPA President and CEO Bruce Wood. “We’ve been staging events all year to share Port activity with our customers, members of the community and our civic leaders.”
Long-time port tenant McKeil Marine Ltd. will see Chairman Blair McKeil presented with the ACPA Award of Merit. In 2003, HPA renamed the East-West corridor road on Pier 15 “Evans McKeil Way” to honour Blair’s father who founded McKeil Marine as Evans McKeil Workboats in 1956. The road now serves as a vital link for commerce across the port.
