Annual General Meeting and Summer Social

On June 21st, members and guests met in the downstairs lounge of the Naden Wardroom. During the AGM, the Executive all gave favourable accounts of their 2011/2012 terms:

• The Papers Coordinator provided a great roster of presentations throughout the year; which lead to very good attendance at monthly meetings.

• Our Membership Coordinator worked long and hard to get the membership list as accurate as possible and was happy to report that membership totals are on the rise again with a number of younger members joining.

• The Honorary Treasurer reported the Branch’s continuing healthy finances, including the finalization of accounts from a very successful Mari-Tech conference.

• Our National Council Representative outlined new initiatives undertaken by Council to improve operations and communication with members.

The existing Executive will continue for the 2012/2013 session. In addition, we welcome two additional members: Matthias Teichrieb who will be Assistant Papers Coordinator while Martin Leduc becomes Assistant Communications Coordinator. Their relative youth will help keep the Branch vibrant into the future.

After a lovely dinner, Tyler Brand gave a presentation. Mr. Brand is the Director of Training Services for Virtual Marine Technology Pacific, a company located in Victoria that specializes in simulation training. His presented some new concepts in that field.
