Belledune Port Authority (BPA) officially greeted Captain Subhendu Kumar Subudhi, Master of MV Dragonera, the first ship to lay anchor at the port of Belledune in 2014.

Dragonera is registered in Malta and her last port of call before arriving in Belledune was Port of Barranquilla, Colombia. The vessel’s agent is Calypso Marine Agency, represented by Mr. Raymond Corbin. Dragonera docked at the port the morning of January 13th, 2014 to unload approximately 25,000 tonnes of metcoke.

Rayburn Doucett, President and CEO of the Port, presented Mr. Subudhi with a commemorative gift at a ceremony held at the Port Authority’s administrative offices.

Mr. Doucett also took the opportunity to welcome the Captain, with his Chief Officer, Krishna Mohan Peethala, Chief Engineer, Avinash Choudhary, and crew members to Port of Belledune.

Mr. Doucett also thanked the staff and Board of Directors for their continuous support and further stated that: “Early in 2013, Belledune Port Authority faced many challenges including the expiration of several of its long-term contract agreements. The first with its stevedoring company, Eastern Canada Stevedoring, which is renowned for its exceptional flexibility and service; the second, with its major tenant – NB Power, Operator of Terminal 2 which also celebrated a 20 year partnership with the Port of Belledune in 2013, and yet another with Irving Oil, operator of the liquid bulk storage tanks. All contracts were renewed, demonstrating their continued support and commitment to the Port. For this, we are truly appreciative. I therefore commend the staff for successfully negotiating all of the above-mentioned agreements, thus securing the long-term viability of the Port. Furthermore, to attain a strong financial performance in the face of a global recession is a testament to the Port’s vibrant operations, efficient marshalling of resources and excellent service – a remarkable achievement indeed! “

Representatives Yvon Godin, MP for Acadie-Bathurst, Don MacGregor from Glencore, and Donald Roy from Eastern Canada Stevedoring, also attended the ceremony.
