Green Marine received the Lloyd’s List North American Maritime Award for Environmental Excellence. Lloyd’s List created the industry-wide awards event for the North American maritime shipping industry last year. The awards complement the Lloyd’s List series of award ceremonies held annually in London (for the global awards), Greece, the Middle East and India Subcontinent, Asia and Australia.
“The Green Marine initiative has grown rapidly and the number of participants has almost tripled since the program’s inception in 2007, with the latest count being 90 and steadily rising,” noted David Bolduc, Green Marine’s Executive Director, after the ceremony in Houston, Texas. “This award is a testament to the program’s success and, even more importantly, to its relevance and credibility throughout North America.”
The awards are judged by industry experts, such as the Presidents of the Chamber of Shipping of America and the Shipping Federation of Canada, and representatives of the American Bureau of Shipping. “This peer recognition is truly appreciated,” added Bolduc. “Green Marine’s participants deserve to be recognized and congratulated for the extraordinary efforts that they have undertaken to improve their environmental performance. Their commitment has paved the way for the program’s recognition.”
Canada Steamship Lines was presented with the Inland/Coastal/Lake Ship Operator of the Year Award, and Green Marine partner ABS (American Bureau of Shipping), won the Maritime Services Award.
