As of June 2015, Helijet service to Vancouver has been available from Nanaimo Port Authority’s Cruise terminal. Helijet started Canada’s first scheduled helicopter service in 1986, flying between Vancouver and Victoria. Since that time, Helijet has expanded its destinations, and has expanded its fleet to include various types of helicopters, as well as business jets. Service to and from Nanaimo was introduced as a three flights per day service, but has now expanded to a schedule of seven flights per day, Monday to Friday, using 12-passenger Sikorsky S76A helicopters. “In addition to expanding its flight schedule between Vancouver and Victoria, this is also Helijet’s first fall season for its new 18-minute service between downtown Vancouver and downtown Nanaimo. For passengers on this route, this will be the first time they have the ability to work a full day in either Vancouver or Nanaimo, without being tied to the sun, or the whims of nature. Before sunrise, after sunset, and in most types of weather, Helijet is capable of conducting regular flight operations when other carriers are unavailable to fly.”
Bernie Dumas, Nanaimo Port Authority’s President & CEO adds: “Helijet is an excellent addition to our existing transportation service providers, offering more flexible options for the business and pleasure traveller. We are very happy to have this professional service added to our fleet of valued transportation choices.”
