Freight forwarder Delmar is alerting shippers that current water levels on the St. Lawrence River are at unusually low levels and cargo operations at the port of Montreal are being impacted. The latest projections suggest that these conditions will not improve in the coming weeks.

As a result, ocean freight carriers have been reducing their vessel capacities and applying weight restrictions to better cope with the situation.

In the upcoming weeks, carriers will be implementing a Low Water Surcharge for all cargo loading or discharging at the port of Montreal. This surcharge will be applied to all types of equipment, with levels varying slightly by carrier utilized.
