Gordon Bain, President, and Jacques Tanguay, First Vice-President and General Manager of Le Groupe Océan Inc., celebrated the company’s 40th anniversary by supporting a cause dear to their hearts: helping sick children. “Young children who have to face sickness and suffering deserve the hope of a better life,” declared Bain and Tanguay.

children foundation donationTo support the cause, Ocean donated $120,000 to Le Centre mère-enfant of the Centre hospitalier de l’Université Laval (CHUQ) in Quebec City, for the purchase of a state-of-the-art ultrasound machine. However, Ocean wanted to go further. Having solicited the support of numerous partners for a special event held on November 15, Ocean collected an additional amount of $100,000 for the purchase of five NAVA systems. Mechanical respiration is essential for children suffering from acute health problems and the NAVA system, a highly specialized respirator, offers unique benefits. It adapts to the respiratory capability of the child, thus making the assisting ventilation gentler and more comfortable. The child does not have to fight against the breathing apparatus; rather, the child becomes an ally in his recovery. Moreover, by diminishing the patient’s discomfort, the NAVA system greatly reduces pulmonary damage and other complications that may occur. Furthermore, it minimizes stays in intensive care.

With the help of its partners, Ocean’s initiative allowed a total donation of $220,000 to CHUQ’s pediatric intensive care unit.

Ocean wishes to thank all of its partners that made this initiative a success, with special mention to Quebec Stevedoring and ScotiaBank for their very generous contributions.
