Ocean Industries Inc. announced the immediate start of construction of a new 25-metre tug at its facilities located at Isle-aux-Coudres, Quebec. This new construction, valued at $10.6 million, represents over seven months of work and was made possible by the financial assistance of 15 per cent of the construction cost by Industry Canada through its Structured Financing Facility program.

Upon scheduled completion by December of 2012, the tug, to be owned by Océan Remorquage Montréal Inc., will be used for harbour operations at Port of Montréal and will also be called upon for ship-escort services, short- and long-

distance towing, as well as rescue operations and wreck removals. The tug’s hull will be reinforced for ice navigation and its engine will develop 4,000 BHP. It will be powered by two Z-drive type omnidirectional propellers and equipped with a firefighting system and all the necessary equipment to provide safe and efficient services.

“Ocean is a growing company. We continuously invest in state-of-the-art equipment to meet our customers’ expectations. The expertise and skill of our employees allow us to build top-quality tug boats”, indicated Jacques Tanguay, First Vice-President and General Manager. “This new 25-metre tug will join Ocean’s fleet and will contribute in maintaining the flexibility of our operations along the St. Lawrence,” added Mr. Tanguay.

In addition to the new tug, a new trailing suction hopper dredge is currently under construction at the Isle-aux-Coudres shipyard for completion by August 2012.
