Saguenay Port Authority announced that BlackRock Metals Inc. has indicated its intention to ship minerals extracted from its future iron, titanium and vanadium mine located near Chibougamau through the Grande-Anse marine terminal. Iron, titanium and vanadium concentrate will be transported by train from the mine to the port, from where they will be shipped to overseas customers.
Privately owned BlackRock Metals Inc. is planning the development of an open pit mine and processing plant about 30 kilometres Southeast of Chibougamau on Oujé-Bougoumou Cree community territory. “The guarantee that our products will be shipped year-round thanks to the deep-water port in Saguenay is an important step for us in our efforts to develop our mining operations on the Jamésie Territory,” said Jean Rainville, President and CEO of BlackRock Metals Inc. BlackRock plans to produce between two and five million tonnes of concentrate per year, with initial operations planned for 2013.
