Prince Rupert Port Authority welcomed to its Board of Directors Mr. John Farrell, a Prince Rupert resident and business owner with extensive leadership experience in the community. Mr. Farrell was appointed by the City of Prince Rupert and the District of Port Edward, filling a designated position on the Board as per the Port Authority’s letters patent. Mr. Farrell’s appointment will be effective May 1, 2015. He replaces outgoing Board member Maureen Macarenko, who served for over two years in this locally-appointed role.

“On behalf of the Board and our staff, I extend a warm welcome to John,” said Bud Smith, Chairman of the Board. “John demonstrates dedication to the health and growth of Prince Rupert community, both through his entrepreneurial ventures and the many volunteer roles he’s filled in the community. His contribution will be valuable as we guide the Port through unprecedented expansion and diversification.” “I also want to acknowledge the commitment and service of Maureen Macarenko,” said Smith. “Maureen’s business acumen and knowledge of her hometown’s growth potential have been tremendous assets to the Port. Her insight and hard work have endowed a powerful legacy.”

“This is an exciting time for Prince Rupert, and I am honoured and excited to play a role in the growth of this important Canadian trade gateway,” said Mr. Farrell. “I support the growth and believe in the potential of BC’s North Coast, and have aligned my career choices, leadership initiatives and volunteer commitments to realizing that vision.” Among other responsibilities, John has been a past President of the Prince Rupert and District Chamber of Commerce.
