PortsToronto announced the appointment of Robert Poirier as Chair of its Board of Directors effective August 20, 2015. Mr. Poirier is an active Board member and has served on the Audit and Finance Committee, and the Governance, Nominating and Human Resources Committee.
Mr. Poirier succeeds Mark McQueen, who has served as a Director since August 2007. Mr. McQueen announced last year that he would step down as Chair, and from the Board, in 2015 following his June 2014 appointment as Chair of the Board of the Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority. Mr. McQueen was the longest-serving Chairman of PortsToronto and its predecessor agencies since the 1950s.
In addition to serving as Chair of the Board for PortsToronto, Mr. Poirier is the Managing Director, Alternative Investments Servicing at State Street, a leading provider of financial services to institutional investors worldwide. Mr. Poirier has also served in senior positions with some of Canada’s largest firms and as a senior advisor to members of the Senate Committee on Banking, Trade and Commerce from 1992 until 1999 where he was involved in the abolition of Canada’s foreign property rule, governance practices of institutional investors and the evolution of some of Canada’s largest public sector plans.
